Mad Dog
A scrawny, disheveled canine with long, slick whiskers and a grating voice, Mad Dog flies alongside Don Karnage as the captain's wingman. Despite his lack of a formal education, Mad Dog is considered one of the craftier, more conniving pirates in Karnage's band (not very high praise). Though a coward at heart, he loves to bully and pick on others when he has the upper hand.
Mad Dog tends to whine and complain, especially when paired with fellow Air Pirate Dumptruck during an assignment. Somewhat bossy and ambitious in his own right, Mad Dog has encouraged the Iron Vulture's crew to mutiny on a few occasions, only to come groveling back to Captain Karnage when things went awry.
Dumptruck
The Air Pirate known as Dumptruck provides the muscle behind most of Karnage's piratical operations. Big and burly, wearing a feathered top hat and speaking with a Swedish accent, Dumptruck is gifted with prodigious strength and almost limitless stamina.
Imposing as he is, Dumptruck possesses a thick skull and can be easily duped. In combat, however, opponents find this formidable fighting machine difficult to stop. Dumptruck's brute strength is complemented nicely by Mad Dog's sly and scheming nature, making the pair perfect candidates for two-man missions. Longtime partners if not grudging buddies, Mad Dog and Dumptruck accompany Don Karnage on attacks and treasure-seeking expeditions.
Gibber
Don Karnage's first mate Gibber serves as the captain's eyes and ears among the crew. Always quiet and observant, he speaks softly in a rapid stream of muttering gibberish decipherable only at very close range, hence his peculiar nickname.
Gibber is often seen whispering into Karnage's ear on the Iron Vulture's main deck — lending advice, repeating shipboard scuttlebutt for the captain's consideration and amusement, or merely restating some obvious information. Though occasionally exasperated by his first mate's understated remarks, Don Karnage values Gibber's assistance in acquiring valuable tips on cargo runs and "hot" shipments.
Ratchet
Resident mechanical genius of the Air Pirates, the pirate called Ratchet gave up a promising career as a mechanic to pursue a life of crime and high-flying adventure in Karnage's crew. An expert technician and repairman, Ratchet has gained some respect among his shipmates for his considerable mechanical talents.
Besides inventing the terrifying lightning gun which the Air Pirates used to nearly destroy Cape Suzette, Ratchet performs all the repairs and modifications to the Air Pirates' equipment. In his spare time, Ratchet dabbles in electronics work and helps fellow pirates install ejection seats and custom controls in their CT-37 fighter planes.
Hacksaw
A fidgety, scraggly individual with "the brains of a duck," Hacksaw is perhaps the most unstable of the Air Pirates. Self-taught in explosives, Hacksaw evidently sat within range of one too many detonations, accounting for his quirky mannerisms and wild-eyed facial expression. He wears his ears up through a small ring and sports leather armbands loaded with sticks of TNT.
Extremely high-strung, Hacksaw either chatters away incessantly in a cockney accent or responds to orders with grunts and guttural sounds. Eager to please Captain Karnage, Hacksaw often mistakes trivial matters for emergencies, and in trying to solve them creates genuine crises.
Hal
One of the more notable of Karnage's otherwise anonymous pirate heavies, Hal is something of an everyman among the crew. Adept at most piratical activities but highly skilled at none, this fat feline acts in many different capacities, from wingman to sentry to saboteur.
Hal prefers hand-to-hand combat and loves playing with shells and explosives, making games out of detonating them. Though clumsy and idiotic, he possesses a rather pronounced streak of cruelty (even for an Air Pirate).
Jock
Jock, whom Don Karnage calls "Scotty" for some strange reason, serves as helmsman and chief engineer of the Iron Vulture. Rarely seen aboard ship unless the Air Pirates are out in full force on extended excursions, Jock is a skilled airship pilot who can navigate the Vulture from standstill to takeoff, under a hail of artillery fire, in just a few seconds.
Quick for his small size and gifted with a wry sense of humor, Jock can usually be found napping at the base of the Vulture's controls during the evening watch.
