(Seems like a good place to carry on after we got out of the conduits, to wait for Leon and co.)
The pilot lead Vincent straight to this place, figuring that sooner or later, Leon, Cloud, or... anyone would show up. Upon entering, he lit up another cigarette, even though he knew that he would be yelled at for 'stinking up the place' by Yuffie later.
"Okay, I think we'd do well to hang out here and meet up with the others. Not to mention, I could use the break after all that shit back underground."

(I intended to have Leon join Vincent, Cloud, and Cid, but the posting response in other areas wasn't there, but that's fine. I think I will have Leon arrive sometime and discuss the pros and cons of what happened, how to make it better, that sort of thing. In the meantime, I think Alex should bring Rinoa in to congregate with the other members of the Hollow Bastion Restoration Committee.)

Vincent followed Cid's lead back to the place they called Head Quarters and nodded when the pilot lancer spoke. The place was furnished well enough and he wouldn't completely mind his stay there until they could figure out what to do with him. He planned to keep mainly to himself but it would be rude to walk off and leave Cid there without having first met the owners of the place and the group that was located here.
"Alright." At the mention of needing a break his crimson eyes scanned over his teamate's form to ensure that he was alright before nodding to him again. Quietly he stepped aside and leaned against the nearest wall to become unobtrusive and out of the way.
"What can you tell me about those creatures?" he asked into the silence, figuring if they needed to wait he might as well gather any information he could.

The pilot went and sat in front of a computer, typing in a few things before replying. "Well, let's see... What is there to say 'bout 'em? They're called Heartless... They sorta invade worlds, tear 'em apart. I dunno, my main focus has just been to try and keep 'em outta this little town since that's all I can really do."
He fell silent for a moment, his own feeling of inadequacy flooding in on him. "Ya know, if you want the real scoop on 'em, you're gonna hafta wait 'til Leon shows up. He's better at explainin' that kinda thing than I am."

"Exactly, and that's why we have to devise a better means of counter attack. I am not going to allow our home to be taken again, not this time."
His comment was in direct reference to Cid's mentioning that Heartless invaded other worlds, including this one, this one that was his sole responsibility, or that is what he told himself each and every waking moment.
"Cid, is there anything you've been working on that could be of use? I'm afraid today's performance was not as effective as it should be, not when this war is just starting."
The lion-hearted soldier's fingers danced along the handle of his legendary Gunblade, a one-of-a-kind, at least here in Hollow Bastion. In those few moments, it was like a breeze of fresh air, an implication that he still held a purpose despite the sluggish response to dealing with the Heartless problem. He raised his eye-level to Vincent's, looking at him for only a moment's passing before re-addressing the situation.
"Vincent, what did you see down there? Are the Heartless becoming more excitable? If so, there may be something they're looking for, something we can use to our advantage."

Cid turned around in his seat and looked over at Leon. "Well, look what the cat dragged in... I been workin' on a few things, actually..."
With that, he turned back around to face his computer, and brought a few things up on the screen. "Well, all them sensors and what not that I've been puttin' out, I've been thinkin' that I can link 'em up to a computerized security system that, if I play my cards right, might be able to take care of smaller Heartless on it's own. Like... sorta a big Heartless bug zapper..."
He had to stop and laugh to himself at the thought. After all, the little ones had always reminded him of wingless flies so it was fitting as far as he was concerned. "I ain't actually installed anythin' as far as the defense portion of it yet, though. Might just be time for me to get offa my ass and get on it, ne?"

[Guess who's finally posting? -will reprimand himself about it-]
Vincent stood quietly in the hall, blending with the shadows almost as if he were one of them. If not for his scarlet adornment he would be. Squall's approach was no surprise to him, he had sensed the other's strong willed presence as he came in and only looked up at the exchange briefly before settling back into his thoughts.
Finally he stirred after listening to the entire conversation. "It would seem we have a greater enemy," he mused aloud, "unless these creatures mindlessly attack according to their nature. It seems to me they are far too coordinated for that to be the case, yet far too mindless to be of one goal simultaneously. They are controlled, driven. By whom and for what purpose I do not as of yet know. I was hoping you would have more insight to this."

It was predictable to expect Vincent Valentine to be unpredictable, but regardless it was a welcoming refreshment to know he had someone, even a nightstalker, on his side.
"I believe we're all at a loss for knowledge, so far. The majority of us fled our homeworlds when the Heartless began appearing in numbers far beyond our respective capabilities, we were more focused on getting to somewhere safe than studying them and their habits, something I regret not doing."
The SeeD elite moved past Cid, maintaing a stiff posture as he reattatched his Gunblade to his belt's clip, allowing the freedom of movement for both of his upper limbs. He would then turn back his conversation and focus to the duo in his presence, allowing them to have more insight into his current thoughts.
"I agree, absolutely. They seemed to know where to go, and how to hit us, and hard. I don't want that happening again, so I'm assigning you to devise a more advanced security protocol to protect Hollow Bastion's resources, especially the power generator."
He mimiced his fellow Hollow Bastion Restoration Committee member's posture, taking a moment to lean against the wall, arms crossing across his chest as several loose strands of his hair dangled before his handsome, save the single diagonal scar, facial features. He was beginning to be reminded of the burden of leadership, but one worth the struggle.
"Vincent, while Cid is doing that, I want you to find Cloud and work with the other citizens here, to establish a defense militia in the event something like this occurs again. I want everyone to be in peak condition, trained hard, and who better in comparison than you two? SOLDIER's finest, and a former Turk."

The pilot sighed to himself, thinking about what he needed to do. Sure, the fact that he was being given the assignment of coming up with some way to protect the power supply was a given, even if it wasn't necessarily glorious or something he would get a lot of praise for from the general public. Hell, most of what he did went by unnoticed.
"Yeah... I'll think of somethin'..." he said, half to himself, turning back to his computer's screen and propping his head up with one arm as he leaned forward on the desk. "I'll... think of somethin', I always do, right?"

"Understood." It was his one word answer and was all that needed to be said. He understood his place here now, understood what needed to be done, and understood how to do it.
His chilling gaze went from Squall to Cid, briefly giving his old friend a glance ensuring he was alright after that tussle in the conduits. He seemed fine and his piercing stare went back to Squall. "I will work with you and your allies but my loyalties are not to this place, they are to my comrades. I don't doubt you understand that, then you understand me." There had been a change in the 'vampire', his guilt was no longer a hinderance to him supporting comrades and...friends. He didn't feel forgiven quite yet, but at least he had stopped his self punishment and realized he could be a help to those he cared about.
"Cid," there seemed to almost be a twinge at his lips, a near smile, "keep up the good work."
With a ruffling of his cape out behind him he walked off to find another old friend with Mako eyes and striking blonde hair.

The two seemed so enthusiastic in working to provide Hollow Bastion with the security it needed. How a sense of humor failed to stick to him, so he couldn't make some smart alec comment in reply to Vincent, or in encouraging Cid. It was all business, all the time for him, though sometimes, very rarely, a smile would form across his face.
"I suppose as long as you're stuck here, you'll be of use to us. Honestly, I wouldn't have it any other way, though remember that as long as you're stuck here, you may as well make it easy on your temporary home. I had a similiar talk with Cloud a while back, I know you understand."
With that, he turned away from Vincent and glanced at Mr. Highwind, it seemed that the smoking pilot needed a bit of a pep talk. How ironic, especially considering that it would be coming from him, Mr. Cold-hearted himself. However, it would not come in the form of sugar and flowers, but more along the lines of reality and predicament.
"You haven't let us down before, Cid. In our time here, you've been the most reliable, for all of us. As grim as it may be, we'd all be dead if not for your quick-thinking."

"Yeah, well... maybe there's somethin' to be said for age and stability or... whatever'." He pulled out a cigarette and lit up as he narrowed his eyes at the screen before him, his head still splitting from the near electrocution in the conduit.
In his mind, he knew that there would be those that would question why he, as a former Air Force Captain, would let himself be ordered around by kids half his age. The short answer simply was that he didn't have the energy to do any leading himself anymore. His prime days were up, and he knew it. Whenever he suffered any sort of physical insult, these thoughts just came up for him more because that's when he felt really old. Hell, he knew that come tomorrow, he'd be hurting something fierce.
"Maybe some sort of infra red sensors with a defense system would do... I'll hafta ruminate on it for a bit here," he said, taking a long drag. "I'll work on this tonight and come up with a plan for it in the mornin'. I could use a beer, too... helps... grease up the gears in my mind, ya know?"
...not to mention, it would help him start to ignore the pain in his head, hands, back... well, everywhere.

[Gotta question...Where is Cloud? I've no idea where to post next with Vincent. Ideas welcomed.] You'd have to ask Alex that, maybe discuss it up with him. But I think this forum is experiencing what the Naruto one did a while back, a dry spell, but if it's like the Naruto one, it'll come back... I hope.
